FSSAI Registration

FSSAI denotes Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is established under the Ministry of Health & Family welfare regulated under the Government of India to maintain food standards.

A person must obtain a FSSAI license/registration to commence or carry on any food business. All the food manufacturing, processing or food packaging or distributing entity requires getting them register and obtaining FSSAI license.

The Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 was introduced by the Government of India to improve the hygiene and quality of food provided by the food industries to general public.

FSSAI Registration
Any person or entity that operates any kind of business related to food has to get registered under FSSAI act and get FSSAI License to continue the business.

FSSAI License
Any person running a food business, not a petty food business operator has to obtain a FSSAI license.

FSSAI license is of two types-
1. State FSSAI license
2. Central FSSAI license

STATE FSSAI LICENSE-
The companies that are required to obtain a state FSSAI license is stated below:

A four star rating hotel providing lodging, meals and guest related services
All the clubs and canteens
Restaurants having turnover up to Rs. 20 crores per year.
Mid-day meals, caterers, food retailers, food suppliers with a turnover of up to Rs. 20 crores per year.

CENTRAL FSSAI LICENSE-
All the 5 star hotels need to acquire central FSSAI license.
